Beyond the ordinary

Pride of Madeira
Madeira's Iconic Blue Beauty
One of Madeira's most recognisable native plants, the Pride of Madeira (Echium candicans) is a spectacular flowering shrub found across the island's rugged landscapes.
During its flowering season, tall spikes covered in vibrant blue and violet flowers create striking displays against Madeira's green mountains and dramatic coastal scenery. Native to Madeira and naturally adapted to the island's unique climate, it is a beautiful symbol of the wild and colourful character of the island.
Keep an eye out for this magnificent plant as you travel through Madeira's countryside, mountain roads and coastal landscapes — particularly during the spring flowering season.
Native to Madeira. Naturally beautiful. Unmistakably Madeiran.

Fanal Forest
Where Ancient Trees Meet the Mist
Hidden high in the mountains of Madeira, Fanal Forest is one of the island's most magical and atmospheric landscapes. Part of Madeira's ancient Laurissilva Forest, this remarkable area is home to centuries-old laurel trees, rolling green hills and a landscape that can transform completely when the mountain mist arrives.
The forest is part of a unique ecosystem that has survived for millions of years and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walking among the ancient trees, especially when they are surrounded by low cloud and mist, feels like stepping into another world.
Fanal is also home to a rich variety of native plants and wildlife, making it a wonderful place to slow down, explore and appreciate Madeira's natural heritage.
For photographers and nature lovers, the ever-changing light, twisted trees and misty landscapes make Fanal one of the most unforgettable places to experience on the island.
