Part of Madeira's ancient Laurissilva Forest, this remarkable area is home to centuries-old laurel trees, rolling green hills and a landscape that can transform completely when the mountain mist arrives.
The forest is part of a unique ecosystem that has survived for millions of years and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walking among the ancient trees, especially when they are surrounded by low cloud and mist, feels like stepping into another world.
